Redesigning everyday life with Italian ingenuity

On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy celebrated the Italian creative and innovative genius by hosting, at Palazzo Piacentini in Rome, the exhibition "The Italy of Patents. Successful Inventions and Innovations."

Promoted by the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, the exhibition pays tribute to Italian excellence, which contributes to the development of ideas and projects capable of generating significant change by gaining prominence both nationally and internationally.

Among the protagonists of the exhibition is Angelini Technologies-Fameccanica. It is  the division of Angelini Industries dedicated to the industrial technology sector, with a focus on Converting and Automation & Robotics. With a portfolio of more than 1,100 patents and recognized by the European Patent Office as one of the most innovative companies in Italy, Angelini Technologies-Fameccanica, embodies an industrial vision based on sustainable innovation and global competitiveness.

During the exhibition, the company presented a storyline of innovation based on two patents: S15 and Greenpackt®, solutions that are revolutionizing the world of single-dose detergent production and sustainable packaging.

An End-to-End approach for sustainable production

Angelini Technologies-Fameccanica stands out for its end-to-end approach, covering every stage of a product's lifecycle, from research and development to production and final packaging. This integrated model ensures complete, customized solutions that meet customers' needs in terms of quality, efficiency, and sustainability.

The S15 Technology Platform

Designed and manufactured for the production of single-dose detergent capsules, the S15 platform is equipped with a robotic tracking dosing system that allows the detergent liquid to be dispensed with extreme precision, maximizing the appropriate and sustainable use of the product. This ensures a significant reduction in waste and a high speed of production, while maintaining excellent standards of quality for the final product. In particular, the S15 platform features:

  • Flexibility: The S15 adapts to a wide range of sizes, liquid viscosities and compartment configurations, providing customized solutions to meet different production needs.
  • Ease of use: Designed for intuitive operation, the S15 requires only one operator. This simplification reduces equipment changeover times and optimizes production processes.
  • Smart monitoring: Data digitization enables continuous and detailed control of production parameters. Advanced real-time acquisition and analysis systems allow operators to take immediate action to optimize performance and ensure maximum quality.

The Greenpackt® project, featured in the exhibition to complement S15, responds to the problem of plastic packaging, which is commonly used to package single-dose capsules.

The Greenpackt® platform

An all-in-one production system

designed to make the packaging industry sustainable

Single-dose products with water-soluble film have been on the market for about 20 years. Their introduction to the Home-Care sector was a real revolution, changing established consumer habits. Traditionally, the packaging of these products has made extensive use of plastics, such as rigid trays equipped with child-resistant systems designed to prevent misuse. Even today, single-does capsules are predominantly sold in plastic containers, confirming the prevalence of this material in the packaging industry.

In this context, the Greenpackt® project proposes an alternative solution: an automated platform for the production of eco-sustainable packaging made of recycled cardboard fibers, which reduces CO₂* emissions by about 50% compared to the production of equivalent plastic packaging and, thanks to an independent cart system and flexible processes, adapts to the production of different types of packaging, limiting production waste.

In addition, Greenpackt® packaging designed for single-dose detergent capsules is itself recyclable and features a certified and patented ‘child-resistant’ opening system.

S15 and Greenpackt® are the result of a complete system that revolutionizes the production and packaging of single-dose detergent capsules.

Thanks to continuous efforts to accelerate progress in this field, which is often "invisible" to the end consumer, unique solutions can be created that can help people in their daily lives, in the simplest but most essential activities.

The exhibition "Italy of Patents. Successful Inventions and Innovations" completes the trilogy of exhibitions on industrial property that began with "Italia Geniale”, dedicated to design, and continued with “Identitalia”, dedicated to the national system of trademarks. Three events that together mark a path that highlights the strategic importance of industrial property as an engine of cultural, economic, and technological growth, placing Italian genius at the center of the international scene.

In this context, Angelini Technologies-Fameccanica is a concrete example of how Italian innovation can generate value not only for industry but also for society, transforming everyday needs into opportunities for progress.

    The decalogue unmasking innovation myths

History teaches us that every great revolution began with an innovative idea, a new way of looking at things, of challenging the status quo. But what does innovation really mean? And why, in many cases, is innovation met with resistance? Stefano Brandinali, Group Chief Innovation Officer at Angelini Industries, tells us about the many false beliefs that surround the topic of innovation and often preclude its development.

Innovate or disappear? Why innovation is necessary but difficult to achieve

Everyone recognizes that it is necessary to innovate in order to stay competitive, or else face the risk of disappearing. it is also evident that innovating is not easy. Why is it so difficult? Innovating is difficult because managing innovation requires a delicate balance between extremes that often appear to be irreconcilable, even if in reality, they are not.
