Covid 19 and a holistic approach to worker health: welfare in the Angelini industrial Group, operating in Pharmaceuticals and consumer goods, is growing to offer three thousand employees in Italy a psychological help desk associated to the current emergency
Rome (Italy), 23.4.2020. Open a listening channel for those experiencing emotional difficulties for the changes in daily routine related to the Covid-19 emergency. With this aim, Angelini Holding activated a psychological helpdesk dedicated to employees from all Angelini Group companies in Italy. The service was designed and created by Prof. Stefano Ferracuti and Prof. Anna Maria Giannini of La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, and is active as of April 20th.
A team of psychologists and psychotherapists can be contacted thanks to a dedicated toll-free number and website. Each user will be put in contact with the available professional, so as to open a session. After the first two sessions the psychologist or therapist will decide if continuing with the interviews is necessary or not. All in complete anonymity.
“The support helpdesk fielded by Angelini Holding constitutes a full-blown highly qualified psychological counselling service” – explained Anna Maria Giannini, Full Professor of Psychology at La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy – “The service is provided by a group of highly specialized professionals, trained to manage this type of emergencies. Psychology has a fundamental value in supporting people in times of change and in emergency scenarios such as the one we are living; the choice of activating a helpline is a genuine contribution to maintaining and promoting workplace health.”
The Helpdesk aims to protect the psychological well-being of individuals, favouring emotional processing and individual adaptation strategies; acts on stress levels and on the sense of difficulty related to the emotional impact of the event; provides useful information on the practical consequences of the event from a psychological point of view.
“For us in Angelini – commented Vice Presidents Thea Paola Angelini and Sergio Marullo di Condojanni – the health of the people and of our employees is of the utmost importance. But health means not only health of the body, it is also well-being of the mind. A complex balance, that of body and mind, inextricably tied. And, unfortunately, this prolonged condition of isolation can be unsettling to this delicate balance. We believe that, thanks also to this listening helpdesk, we can all together deal with our anxieties and prepare to get back to the “new” normal that awaits us.”
“The existence of a psychological helpdesk, enabled by the company, brings benefits not only to those who choose to use it and get in touch with a professional – continues Stefano Ferracuti, Full Professor of Clinical Psychology at La Sapienza University in Rome – The value of this kind of initiatives comes also from the awareness, that is established in workers, of having a concrete possibility for an emotional and relational confrontation. Knowing that there are support factors made available by the employer contributes per se in the creation of a positive company climate, with an increase in the perceived sense of protection, and a secondary benefit for those who do not use the service directly”.
The Psychological Helpdesk project is promoted by Angelini Group Vice Presidents and is coordinated by the Angelini Holding HR team, with the contribution of the Angelini Pharma Medical Department.
